Adventures in Abstraction

Hans Hartung, T-20 (1954)

Hans Hartung, L-102 (1958)

Hans Hartung, H-19 (1978)

Three pieces of mid-century abstraction from Hans Hartung, a German painter who moved to France before WW2. He was branded a "degenerate artist" by the Nazis and subsequently never returned to Germany.

Dead Sharks

Sharks are amazing creatures. It's sad we're afraid of them, but then again, if we weren't afraid of them, they wouldn't be such fascinating creatures.

Great White Sharks are big, really big. Their mouths are full of teeth. Sharks are requins in French. Which Melville connects to requiem. Resters: those big mouths not just violence and pain but some kind of abyss we can't help but look down into. Fishermen are the types that crawl up to the abyss on all fours and flat on their stomachs, perfectly safe in their fear.

Sharks are everywhere. Swimmers and surfers know this; some scientists, too.

This is a good thing.

Jodienda Rocks

D
ear Friends,

Here is a link to Jodienda's demo Mi Fucking Corazon.

The amazing artwork is by Laura Melillo, who kicks ass. Here's the back:

A dedicatory poem to actually writing a new post:
Gut smelt/Animal pelt/Skin Fringe/And Blast
Noise Growth/Antic Face/Space Cadet/ Waste

The music's not that weird actually. I think we are an old, wussy version of the spazzy stuff that we loved as kids (and that's okay, actually a positive.)

More to follow...

Hello WORLD

Teahupoo Works is the publishing, music publishing, record-selling Do It Yourself company created by John Melillo.

I have a work by Clark Coolidge, calmer or mer, available at Small Press Distribution, or by mail order. It is an amazing book.

If you would like to produce a book with me, let's do it.
If you would like to do a musical creation of some sort, let's do it.

This is also the home of the bands Jodienda and Algae and Tentacles (and the other "And" bands): I will often update with delicious musical craziness.

Yours truly,
John
